DGE Mitchell Brown - 5.2.GO - "Go WILD about Rotary!"
"An amazing experience", would be the words I would use to summarise the training and development of 540 District Governors Elect from 200 countries from throughout the world, that is the Rotary International Assembly 2017 held in San Diego, USA.
Fiona and I joined our compatriot DGsE and their partners from the other five New Zealand and Pacific Islands Rotary Districts for an intensive week of training, fellowship and preparation for the coming Rotary year - 2017/18.
Whew! ..... and now the planning and confirmation of our District and Club leadership happens in earnest. This was kicked off in San Diego with the announcement from RI President Elect Ian Riseley of the Rotary International theme for the 2017/18 - "Making a Difference".
This will be central to how our Rotary District leadership supports our 55 Rotary Clubs, as well as our Rotaract and Interact Clubs for the coming year.

RI President Elect Ian Riseley is focussed on the future of Rotary with key energy to be directed into developing Rotary membership and our many and varied ways that Clubs and their Rotarians can " Do good in their Communities!".
His words powerfully reinforce where the future lies for Rotary and what we must do to encourage, cajole and lead our Rotary International organisation to achieve;

1. The future of Rotary is in the investment of the programs that introduce the youth to the opportunities and service ideals to our communities through, Rotary Youth Exchange, Matched Student Exchange, RYPEN, RYLA, Interact, Rotaract, E-Clubs, Satellite Clubs, NRG clubs and our Rotary Clubs!

2. Preserve Planet Earth - a project to support the environment with the planting of a tree for every Rotarian.

3. These programs will in turn provide an impetus to support and  strengthen Clubs, to focus and increase Humanitarian Service, and enhance Rotary's Public Image and Awareness.

To achieve a future that Rotary will ensure we continue to be relevant and contemporary, will require investment and support of our youth programs to highlight developing future Rotary and world leaders.

But, for now our Presidents Elect and Assistant Governors for 2017/18 - I would ask that you ENSURE the opportunity to have your personal attendance or your club represented at the most significant training and preparation for our 2017/18 team is confirmed by your registration for our PETS 1 and South Pacific President Elect Training Seminar, 3-5 March 2017 at Waipuna Hotel in Auckland.

The link is below, but in doing so you must book your travel to arrive in time for our District President Elect Training Seminar on Friday 3 March. Many of us will arrive or fly in on the evening of Thursday 2nd March. Please also ensure you contact and book your accommodation with Waipuna Hotel reservations as necessary.

As we get closer to the completion of a fantastic year of Rotary Serving Humanity with DG Martin Garcia, I look forward to developing a passionate team of dedicated Rotarians who will lead our Clubs, support our Clusters of Clubs as Assistant Governors and District Chairs who will lead our District Committees in 2017/18.

If you have a desire or a passion to provide the District with your skills in Public Image and supporting the communication and promotion of our Rotary brand to our Clubs and communities, please email me your interest. I would also encourage Rotarians with skills and energy to support our District committees to share their interest in these roles with me by email - fiona.mitch@xtra.co.nz

I look forward to our last 5 months of training,  planning and preparation to have our Rotarians and Rotary Clubs - Go WILD about Rotary! Only 5.2.GO.
