Rotary Youth Exchange DREAMS – you too can become part of them!
This year District 9940 welcomes six young women from Europe – Germany, Austria (2), France, Switzerland and Belgium, who range in age from 16 to 18, to spend 12 months experiencing everything  Kiwi.  In January 2017 we farewell three New Zealand students to live for the year in France, Germany and Austria (we’ve got five in Europe at the moment).

So, what does it take for a student  to become part of this outstanding programme that Rotary supports and manages so well?   First off, in my opinion, is passion.  On the students part it is a passion for learning, a passion for wanting to be involved in something new and different, and a passion for taking calculated risks!   On the other side of the equation are the Rotary committees that make it all happen – they have a passion for seeing young people grow emotionally and psychologically,  a passion for doing a job well and a passion for contributing something back into their communities, both locally and globally, through the students.

I have been involved in this programme but for a short time and only joined because I got asked to host a function at my home.  I soon realised, from just a little exposure, that it was something that I wanted to be a part of.  We also need you to be a part of it.

Over the next year aYouth Exchange representative will visit your club to talk to about the programme.  Ask them your difficult questions,  absorb their passion, talk to others in your club and become active in the Rotary Youth Exchange Programme – I hope you come on board to be part of an amazing journey with our young people.
