Rotary Foundation Update
 
It is my pleasure to provide this first monthly update on District 9940 Rotary Foundation activities for 2016.  This year marks a special milestone for the Rotary Foundation, its 100 year anniversary. We will be planning some special events to mark this occasion later in the year.
We have just had our 2016/17 District Grant approved by the Rotary Foundations.  This year Grants have been awarded to 11 clubs for a variety of projects

RYE  -  Where Dreams Begin
Rotary Youth Exchange DREAMS – you too can become part of them!
This year District 9940 welcomes six young women from Europe – Germany, Austria (2), France, Switzerland and Belgium, who range in age from 16 to 18, to spend 12 months experiencing everything  Kiwi.  In January 2017 we farewell three New Zealand students to live for the year in France, Germany and Austria (we’ve got five in Europe at the moment).

Progress is continuing but has noticeably slowed. We now have 37 of 55 clubs integrated and synchronised. For those clubs who have not yet fully completed, please can we have a big effort to complete this in the next 2 weeks. At the RI conference in 2017 there is going to be a special celebration because at the 1917 convention, outgoing RI President Arch C. Klumph proposed to set up an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” In 1928, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation, and it became the charity of choice for Rotarians
