District Governor Martin's June Message
Like all officeholders for the year, Denise and I are reflecting on what we have been able to achieve, what we would like to achieve in the next month and what will have to flow over into future years.  I recall vaguely from my studies in quality management in manufacturing that a job should be passed on to the next person in the condition that you would like to receive it.  I am sure we have all been able to achieve something along these lines as we prepare for District and Club changeovers.
Throughout the year, Denise and I have been impressed with the huge amount of voluntary service you are providing our communities throughout the lower North Island.  We often learn of these efforts through Club bulletins. In Clubs and in Districts there are also people working, often behind the scenes, to support our efforts as Rotarians.  Our aim as a leadership development organisation should be to help others succeed, which is truly ‘Service Above Self.’

1.2.GO Wild about Rotary and Making a Difference

OK fellow Rotarian's .. we are 30 days (1 month to GO!!) out from a year of getting powered up and underway with our District and International themes to Go Wild About Rotary and Rotary: Making a Difference in our Clubs, our communities, our District, our country and internationally. We serve in our role in our communities as Rotarian's in so many ways and everyone's contribution, no matter what ever shape that takes, is richly acknowledged and sought to keep us engaged and active in our Clubs to better our world.

Incorporated Society Registration
During the Design your Club workshops, we found at least one Club that was not registered as an incorporated society.  Some Clubs have recently updated their constitution and bylaws, or are in the process of doing so, so will know whether or not they are registered.  I would like Clubs to check that are registered incorporated societies, with the protection that provides.

Globally we have 1.3 million members involved through 220 countries where more than 35000 clubs exist.
Here in Taranaki we have 5 clubs in New Plymouth and one each in Hawera, Stratford, Inglewood and Waitara. Of particular interest to Rotarians which are broad ranging comprise of, humanitarian, intercultural and educational service, along with many varied activities and programmes.

Rotary at Better Home and

Living Show

A couple of weeks ago the District had a stand at the Better Home and Living Show at Westpac Stadium in Wellington.
We had some great support from around the district as Rotarian's worked a shift of three hours - some even coming from Levin to represent Rotary.  During the show we collected names of at least 10 people who expressed an interest in finding out more about Rotary.  Deb Gimblett has followed up with these people

Sir Edmund Hillary Ice Axe
Given the synergy between what Sir Edmund stood for in terms of humanitarian spirit and the ideals of Rotary these Ice Axes I believe are a perfect fit  to generate some significant funds from for your various fundraising endeavors.
These are not sold to the public as an item of memorabilia, just to charities, corporate sponsors and summiteers for who we personalise them with photos of their own adventures.  The reason is this keeps the value in the market extremely high and reduces exposure ensuring demand.

Youth Volunteer Form Requirement
To comply with the Rotary Code of Policies and Rotary’s Statement of Conduct for Working with Youth, all volunteers must be carefully selected and screened.
No volunteer screening method can eliminate the possibility of abuse and harassment, but a thorough screening process can identify applicants with a history of inappropriate conduct, deter dangerous people from applying, and address parent’s concerns.
