“How many of you have wondered what the significance of the coin is that’s impeded in the handle of our fine Collection box?

I suspect some may have never even noticed it.

Turns out that in our inaugural year, 1925, our club hosted the then Governor General  Sir Charles Fergusson (his son, Sir Bernard Fergusson was also Governor General) as the guest speaker.

He was an Honorary member of The Wellington Rotary Club.

He was fined on the night for not wearing his Rotary badge. The fine he paid was a half crown which was impeded in the Fine Box handle”.
