About Us in D9940
District 9940 serves 54 Rotary Clubs, two Rotaract Clubs and three Interact clubs in the lower half of the North Island of New Zealand.

More specifically, we include all Rotary clubs south of a line from the mouth of the Mokau River (on the West coast) to Cape Turnagain (on the East coast) through Mt Ruapehu.

Agriculture, farming, horticulture and tourism are strong and widely spread throughout the region, but we’re not just about that.  We have the centre of the Oil and Gas industry in New Plymouth;  then in the Wairarapa we have one of NZ's major award winning wine growing regions, a significant conservation bird sanctury and home to the unique breed of sheep and their grey wool colour used for many of the costumes in the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.

A strong focus on education is part of the region, with Massey University in Palmerston North and Victoria University in Wellington, rated as one of the worlds coolest little capital cities.

In Wellington, you can find Zealandia. Born out of a 10-year project started and run by Karori Rotary Club members, the project was a leader in the creation of a globally unique fully protected sustainable conservation area close to the heart of large urban city where native species of animals, birds and insects flourish, fully protected by a unique fence that keeps the area predator and pest free.
